Migration guide

Migrate from TeamSnap

TeamSnap got your teams organized. When you find yourself running an actual league on it — divisions, standings, playoffs — here's the move.

Leagues on TeamSnap usually hit the same walls: standings maintained by hand, no playoff brackets, no live scoring, and per-team costs that often land on players and parents. The migration is straightforward because TeamSnap exports well — rosters and schedules come out as CSV. Expect one trade-off: TeamSnap's RSVP and chat are deeper than ours, so teams that live in those features may keep them for communication while the league itself runs on Hockey Line.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Export rosters and schedules

From TeamSnap, export each team's roster (CSV) and the season schedule. If you manage a TeamSnap division or club, export at that level to get everything in one pass.

  2. 2

    Create your rink or league

Sign up and claim your public URL at /r/your-rink. League Management covers unlimited leagues; Starter fits a single league up to 10 teams.

  3. 3

    Rebuild with the AI assistant

Paste the CSVs or describe the league in plain English. The assistant builds leagues, divisions, teams, and rosters, and generates a round-robin schedule if you want a fresh one.

  4. 4

    Verify divisions and playoff structure

Check the generated structure against how you actually run: divisions, game nights, and playoff brackets — the pieces TeamSnap didn't model.

  5. 5

    Hand out join codes

Captains enter the team join code in the free Hockey Line app. Every player gets schedules, live scores, standings, and personal stats — free, with no parent-paid subscription.

  6. 6

Run live scoring at the rink

Score games live — goals, assists, penalties, shots — and watch standings, player pages, and public box scores update themselves. The nightly standings spreadsheet retires here.

Typical time for the full migration: one afternoon.

Frequently asked questions

Does Hockey Line Leagues import TeamSnap CSV exports?

Not as a formal importer — you paste the exported rosters and schedule into the AI setup assistant, which builds the structure from them. In practice it handles CSV text fine and takes minutes per league.

Will parents and players still get schedules and reminders?

Yes — the free Hockey Line app gives every player (and parent) the schedule, live scores, standings, and stats. Push notifications cover games; granular RSVP workflows are lighter than TeamSnap's, which is the honest trade-off.

Who pays after the switch?

Only the league or rink — $150/month flat (or $105/month annual) for unlimited teams, or Starter at $20/month for one small league. Players and parents pay nothing, which is often a direct saving over per-team TeamSnap plans.

Can we keep TeamSnap for team communication?

Sure. Some teams keep a free or team-paid TeamSnap (or any group chat) for RSVP and messages while the league's schedule, scoring, standings, and public pages run on Hockey Line Leagues.
